Led by singer/guitarist Tommy Malone and accordionist John Magnie, the Subdudes draw most of their inspiration from the sounds of their native New Orleans, blending blues, gospel, funk, and R&B with their own harmony vocals; their sound is also notable for the band's substitution of a tambourine player for a drummer. The band came together after backing artists such as Joni Mitchell and Roseanne Cash, and released its eponymous debut in 1989. Like the group's subsequent albums (including 1991's Lucky, 1996's Primitive Streak, and 1997's Live at Last), The Subdudes featured a mix of covers and originals. After an eight-year sabbatical, the Subdudes joined Bob Dylan guitarist Freddy Koella to produce Miracle Mule in spring 2004. Keb' Mo' would be the producer for the band's 2006 effort, Behind the Levee, and Street Symphony would follow in 2007.
www.subdudes.com/news/With their fifth and latest studio album, ‘Into Your Heart’, Hothouse Flowers are planning to steal their way into hearts everywhere. "The one thing I tell everyone," says Hothouse Flowers guitarist Fiachna O’Braonain, "is that this record is the most raw, soulful record we have ever done." Coupling the Flowers’ hunger for a solid soul sound along with the distinctive, instantly recognizable vocals of lead singer Liam O Maonlai, ’Into Your Heart’ is the sound of a band in love with their music - and completely comfortable with the many roots and sources that give their music its unique vibe.

Black 47 espouses an unblinkingly political and thoroughly Irish form of rock 'n' roll, with songs covering topics from the Northern Ireland conflict to civil rights and urban unrest in contemporary New York. Black 47 earned their chops playing the pub scene in Manhattan and self-producing their first indie record, Black 47, before converting The Cars' Ric Ocasek to the cause and gaining mainstream attention with their second album.
www.black47.com/Over the past three albums and five years, Toronto’s Celtic rock band Enter The Haggis has found itself at the center of a grassroots success story ever teetering on the brink of mainstream success. From playing Celtic festivals to headlining them, and from the festival circuit to selling out multiple nights in rock venues, ETH has blazed a path with heavy and almost constant touring up and down the East Coast, to Canada, the West Coast and back again, winning over success one fan, one town, one region at a time.
www.enterthehaggis.com/David Nail grew up in a small town in Missouri, the son of a former high school band director whose musical collection included Stevie Wonder, Elton John and the Beatles. Nail turned to country in the 1990s, then started going back into its history and became a big fan of Glen Campbell. He moved to Nashville right after high school but returned to Missouri after a year. Two years later, he gave Nashville another try. He completed an album for Mercury Records, but it was not released. After taking a break from the music business to help coach a baseball team, he was introduced to music publisher and producer Frank Liddell. Their musical partnership led Nail to sign another record deal with MCA Nashville. His MCA album, I'm About to Come Alive, is scheduled to be released in the summer of 2009.

Ryan Montbleau is a pure soul singer. Not in the traditional sense. His voice — although a sweet, passionate instrument — isn’t packed with Memphis clay like Al Green’s or greased with urban sophistication like R. Kelly’s. Instead, Montbleau sings purely from his soul in a voice every bit as honest, open hearted and original as the stories he tells in his songs.
www.ryanmontbleauband.com/This show is a Tribute to the sound called “Philly Soul” and all the great works that came out from Grammy Award winning producers Gamble and Huff and their amazing Philadelphia International Records roster. This ensemble will consist of some of the finest musicians and vocalists from the Berklee School of Music and the Boston music scene performing the timeless music from the OJays, Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes, Lou Rawls, Phyllis Hyman, Patti Labelle, McFadden and Whitehead, Three Degrees, MSFB, TSOP with a special tribute to the late great Philly Soul recording artist Teddy Pendergrass. Also featuring hits like “Ain’t No Stopping Us Now” and “I Love Music”.
.
The band, complete with horn section, will be led by Professor Jerome Kyles from Berklee School of Music and we promise it will take you right back to where you first heard these wonderful songs.
As we travel on a musical journey through the history of soul and r&b in the 70’s and early 80’s only two cities come to mind: Detroit and Philadelphia. Philly Soul went global through the founding of Philadelphia International Records (PIR). This label was founded by super producers Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff and it was the second-largest African-American-owned music company in America, just behind Motown. Almost from the day PIR first opened their doors, artists on this new label began to dominate the R and B and pop charts. Within a year, the O'Jays had #1 R and B and pop hits like "Back Stabbers" and "Love Train," Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes were riding high with "If You Don't Know Me By Now," and Billy Paul earned the label's first Grammy with "Me and Mrs. Jones."
During these fertile years, Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff were able to tailor songs for various artists and musical styles. They emphasized Lou Rawls' deep bass voice for the hit "You'll Never Find Another Love Like Mine." When the Jackson Five left Motown in 1976, they recorded their first two Epic LP's in Philadelphia - with Gamble-Huff songs and the Philadelphia International production crew. During the late 1970's and early 1980's, Gamble and Huff continued to write Top 10 hits for Teddy Pendergrass, the O'Jays and the Jones Girls. They produced million-selling hits for McFadden and Whitehead, Pattie LaBelle and Phyllis Hyman. After writing or co-writing 3,000 songs, Kenneth Gamble and Leon Huff were inducted into the National Academy of Songwriters Hall of Fame and they were awarded the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Grammy, an award reserved for such musical visionaries as The Beatles, Berry Gordy, Frank Sinatra and Walt Disney.
Come take a ride on the Soul Train and don’t miss this one time exclusive performance! Come early, have Sunday dinner, relax and let the music take you on a journey.
"We wanted this to be a behemoth of an album, a real beast," says Kittie front woman Morgan Lander of In The Black, the fifth studio album of her band's decade-long career as metal's reigning femme fatales. The band delivered true on their promise, creating a 12-track behemoth of unapologetic metal splendor, forging bone-crushing music and penetrating vocals into a snarling beast of blunt force trauma. And better yet, they did it without any drama.
Tara McLeod, Kittie's acclaimed guitarist returns with a prodigious second studio effort. "Tara comes from a different school of music, she's more influenced by blues and jazz, and as we evolve as a band we definitely play off of each other," Morgan says of her fellow guitarist. "They complement each other really well," adds Mercedes, the band's drummer, "and it was really nice to have someone be able to come to practice with a solo for a song or a cool riff. It was nice to have a third party offering suggestions." Also familiar to fans is bassist Ivy Vujic, who has been in the band for two years, making this the most dynamic and engaging lineup in Kittie's history. And their chemistry shows!
With total domestic sales in excess of 1.25 million, Kittie also approached the recording of In the Black as complete free agents, for their first time ever, writing and recording a record with absolutely no outside influences breathing down their necks. The results will make your skin crawl and the hair on the back of your neck stand at attention. www.kittierocks.com
Perpetual Groove has become a rock band. That’s the impression fans got when they heard one of the rock & roll tracks from Perpetual Groove’s new album, LIVELOVEDIE at the band’s sold out New Year’s Eve performance. LIVELOVEDIE was produced by Grammy winner Robert Hannon (Outkast - Speakerboxxx/The Love Below) and Perpetual Groove. The album was produced with renewable energy through Perpetual Groove’s partnership with Tree Sound Studios, Sustainable Waves, and Green Mountain Energy Company and is being released by the environmentally progressive label, Tree Leaf Music.
A celebrated, international touring act for over four years, Perpetual Groove has built a reputation on intense, emotional music that fans call “trance arena rock,” and won over legions of fans with their experimentations in live 5.1 concert surround sound, an intense retina blinding light show, and a willingness to keep the connection strong between band and fans. The Athens, GA-based band’s riveting live performances have catapulted them into the “must-see” category of live rock bands. With a funky blend of jazz-rock, neo-psychedelia, R&B, trance electronica, progressive rock and anthemic arena rock, the Bonnaroo veterans have conquered the festival circuit and continue to tour relentlessly.
JACK INGRAM INTRODUCES “FREE” AS LATEST SINGLE FROM BIG DREAMS & HIGH HOPES
Ingram Resolves to Write One Song a Week And Revives His “Acoustic Motel” Tour For a Limited Run of Listening Rooms
Award winning singer/songwriter Jack Ingram will introduce “Free” as the next single off his third major label album BIG DREAMS & HIGH HOPES (Big Machine Records) on Jan. 25.
“The lyrical content is obviously what’s on everybody’s minds these days…what’s important is all the stuff you don’t have to pay for…they’re the sights and sounds that make you forget all your problems. And musically, it just feels like a good day comin’ on…it makes you want to go outside and take a big ol’ breath of fresh air…it feels like a good start for 2010.”
Produced by Jay Joyce, “Free” is a breezy and uplifting embrace of the finer non-material things in life. Billboard labels it as an album highlight “echoing the best work of Glen Campbell,” while the Cleveland Leader calls the tune “a toe-tapping playful number that has tons of vibrant fiddles, guitars and snares as he belts it out boldly.”
To preview “Free,” click here: http://thegreenroompr.com/jackingram.html.
On Jan. 1, Ingram tweeted, “Resolution: 1 song per week. Not saying they'll be good- just done. The only way 2 get this done will be less tv and more reading. More later.”
What’s more is Ingram will pack his guitar and kick off a one-man tour of listening rooms, reviving his “Acoustic Motel” tour concept from years back. The set will feature songs from his current album BIG DREAMS & HIGH HOPES, as well as old favorites and songs from some of Ingram’s biggest influences. The first date kicks off Feb. 13 at Joe's Bar in Chicago.
“I spent a lot of years on the road by myself…and a lot of my favorite songs have been written sitting on the edge of a motel bed. We’re going to totally recreate that vibe for this tour…there’s even a set that looks like an old dingy motel room. It’s not easy to entertain a room for of people by yourself for a couple of hours, so it really comes down to the songs. It’s a totally different kind of pressure than it is to play a big arena or stadium. I’m excited about trying it again.”
Johnny Cash was an American music icon known to the world as the "Man in Black." His booming deep bass voice is surely one of the most recognizable in country music history.
While his vocal range was unique and simple, it was incredibly effective at conveying the plight of the common man. Cash's music career began at the same time as the birth of rock `n' roll and his rebellious attitude made him a kindred spirit.
He might not have sounded like a rocker, but he was never what Nashville would have considered to be country either. Johnny Cash was unique, with his deep, resonant baritone and spare, percussive guitar.
We hope you will join us at one of "Michael Patrick's Ring of Fire band" upcoming performances to help us celebrate and relive the music of the legendary artist... the one & only JOHNNY CASH!
